Chess set of tiny planters

Even though I'm not really a chess player, I love ornate chess sets. Especially ones with a special theme where the pieces have original designs.

So I saw this and immediately fell in love. A chess set of tiny planters that you can customise with your own choice of herbs and cute succulents? I want one! A 3D-printed set that XYZWorkshop created for a design competition.

If you are in possession of a 3D printer, the printing pattern is even available for download, for free, on MyMiniFactory.

Weekend DIY - Fabric Floral Rings

One of my best friends from school, who I've known since we were 12, is getting married this Sunday =D!! I'll be away on bridesmaid duty. Let's hope it's not going to be too hot...

To round off this month's wedding related DIY's, here is a cute idea. Turn little fabric flowers into lovely floral ring bands. All you need is ribbon, fabric flowers, and a glue gun!

Weekend DIY Edible - Iced Watermelon Drink

At last! Summer has arrived. Yay!

Watermelon is one of my favourite fruit - biting into a cool, sweet slice of watermelon on a hot summer day is pretty hard to beat.

Or maybe this iced watermelon drink could! All it needs is fresh watermelon, ice and a blender. A ridiculously simple recipe for a cool summer drink from Appon's Thai Food.

Weekend DIY - Ruffly Corsage

Continuing on from last week's wedding theme, here is a simple step by step from Martha Stewart Weddings for making an adorable ruffled corsage for little flower girls. I think that it could be worn to any summer function, and not just by little girls. Also, how about making it into a hair accessory or brooch... =D

Weekend DIY - Tea Storage Jars

Do you ever walk into a specialist tea shop and hanker after the neat rows of pretty jars for your  own kitchen? *Me! Me!* Well, I don't suppose many of us would really need to have so many varieties of tea on selection, but cute storage ideas are always good!

Let Amanda of Wit & Whistle show you how easily you can upcycle glass jars into storage for your favourite herbal teas (or anything else you fancy putting in them) with a simple coat of chalk paint.

Weekend DIY - Bunny Placecards

Hellooooooooooo! Sorry everybody for the very very long hiatus I took from the blog. There wasn't really any particular reason apart from feeling a bit of a block. But no fear, I'm back with more random thoughts and wonderful finds from around the web to share =D

Let's kick off with this adorable DIY project. Now that Spring has made her appearance after that very prolonged Winter, gardens and woodlands up and down the country are industriously playing catch-up. Create a little of that Spring magic on the lunch or dinner table with these cute rabbit placecard holders. Great for afternoon tea parties in the garden or perhaps even woodland themed weddings! Follow Jenny Batt's intructions on The Sweetest Occasion to make your own bunny placecards.

Weekend DIY - Macaron Coin Purse

Okkie, I know the instructions to these adorable handmade macaroon/macaron shaped coin purses by Joanne of CraftPassion look a little complicated (to me at least!) but they're too good not to share. I think they'd make such sweet little gifts! Or maybe used to hold little gifts...

Weekend DIY - Lip Balm

When the weather gets colder and drier, I tend to find myself constantly covered in moisturising creams and balms or else my skin becomes really dry very quickly. So on that note of skin pampering, this weekend's make-your-own is for handmade lip balm. The ingredients list is short and the steps are ridiculously simple. With Christmas and New Year on their way, batches of these would make wonderful little gifts too.

And for those who prefer a little colour, here's an alternative recipe for making your own tinted lip balm! (Martha Stewart)

Weekend DIY - Sock Totoro

I love pretty much all of Hayao Miyasaki-san's animations but I think My Neighbour Totoro is my favourite. How could you not fall in love with a big furry forest spirit and a cat bus?

It would be amazing to have a giant plushie Totoro of course, but these sock plushie versions are just as cute, no? Plus they look so easy to sew. Try your hand at making your own sock Totoro plushie!

Weekend DIY - Bunny Sachet

These fabric bunny shaped sachets are just so cute! I love the many different ways which Joanne suggests you can use them: for example, how about filling them with silica gel beads and then popping them in with things you need to keep dry?

More ideas on what to use these bunnies for, full instructions and templates to make your own fabric bunny sachets.

Weekend DIY Edible: Iced Vanilla Coffee

It's August already and we've hardly had any proper lengths of hot sunny days this summer. Booooo! (Edit: and of course, just to prove me wrong, Mr Sunshine is all over it this weekend). Maybe we'll have an Indian summer/mild autumn like last year...

Anyway, to help keep that summery feeling going, try this iced vanilla coffee recipe from Call me cupcake.
